S7 Trainer

Why a trainer?

While learning PLC programming, it is important to face real world applications. Not everybody has the opportunity of a well equipped lab and, in case, most of hardware applications are just a panel in which some lamps and motors are wired to a low-cost PLC.

S7TRAINER is a series of programs that simulates real applications with enough realistic feedback and eliminates the needing of expensive mechanical applications, electric cabinets, wirings.

It is affordable and very useful for self-starters, students, technical schools, companies and automation software houses that run internal programming courses.

Practice on a real programming environment

Unlike other similar products providing proprietary PLC program editors, S7TRAINER relies on Siemens PLCSIM, a Step7 add-on package that emulates an S7-300/400 CPU. This means that the student, either editing or debugging a program, will use exactly the same tools a real Siemens programmer would use, performing the same operations and procedures.

S7TRAINER allows the use of any language available in Siemens S7 systems: LAD, STL, FBD, SCL, CFC, GRAPH7, HI-GRAPH, etc.

Do you own also Siemens Protool? Add a real HMI interface to your application!

Siemens Protool has a way to interface with PLCSIM, so it can access the simulated PLC memory.
If you own Protool, you can develop and test HMI applications based on Simatic graphic displays (e.g. from a simple TP170 touch-screen panel to more complex displays) and add an even more realistic touch to the whole application. Once again, that's exactly what is normally used in the real world.

Why Siemens PLCSIM is not enough?

At this point you may ask "Siemens PLCSIM would be good enough, why purchasing also RUNMODE S7TRAINER?".
Well, when I was asked to teach automation courses, my students practiced on real PLC's wired to a series of switches. I noticed that most of the student's attention was paid to the correct sequence they must activate the inputs (e.g. to simulate a limit switch) instead to the debugging of the program. A lot of time was wasted because the students activated a wrong input or were just checking which was the correct switch to operate.
So I decided to write the S7TRAINER for the precise purpose of ease my teaching. It turned out a very useful tool.
Effective cost cutter

Schools and self-starters are seldom wealthy and most of the time they cannot afford a full lab: imagine how much it will cost a real pick-and-place arm, a belt conveyors line, a pumps and tanks system. Enough room is also needed to somehow store and place all the stuff. With Runmode S7TRAINER there is no need of any external hardware: this means no motors, no hydraulics, no wirings. There is no need of communication means: not even need to buy any expensive Siemens CP or RS232//MPI adapter

A full safe lab
No need of any safety measure:
- No dangerous or harmful moving parts, rotating motors, actuators.
- No water or oil leaks, no high-pressure piping.
- No any danger of electric shocks.

User PLC programs? No limits!
The user is completely free to create as many S7 projects as he likes, in as many different way as he likes, in any of the different languages available in Siemens S7 package. S7TRAINER provides the machine animation, all the rest is up to you!
