xCP stands for “cross Communication Processors”, a driver that is not tightly wrapped around any specific S7 serial card. It thus allows a large degree of freedom in selecting the best serial Communication Processor for your project at the lowest price. You CP choice may include rack mounted or Profibus CPs, either by Siemens or by other manufactures (e.g. VIPA, WAGO, etc).
xCP MODBUS is a set of S7 blocks coming in two versions: Modbus RTU Master and Modbus RTU Slave.

The driver’s S7 blocks are not protected and fully commented. No hidden code, everything is before your eyes
No multiple license hassles
As long as you sell your PLC programs, the license grants you to include an unlimited number of copies of the driver. So buy once and reuse as many times you need. The only bound is the commitment to not resale nor distribute freely the driver.

The following example shows an entry level solution by Siemens (CP341 and its loadable driver) and an alternate solution using a cheaper CP340 and RUNMODE driver.

The license does not allow to
- distribute the original xCP blocks to others by any means, including Internet peer-to-peer
or any other file sharing method.
- distribute your modified xCP blocks to others by any means, including Internet peer-to-peer
or any other file sharing method.
- resell the xCP library
